Who we are
Women Empowering Women and Disabled — known publicly as the WEWAD Foundation — is a nonprofit corporation registered in the State of Minnesota and recognised by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) public charity. The IRS classifies our work as international relief.
WEWAD was founded with a simple yet powerful vision: to create a world where every individual, regardless of gender, ability, age, background, tribe, or religion, is empowered to reach their full potential. Our journey began in Nigeria, where we recognized the need for an inclusive community that supports women and individuals with disabilities.
Our programmes run principally in Nigeria, across Oyo State, Lagos, and Osun State, and we also serve our home community in Lake Elmo, Minnesota.

To empower individuals and communities through impactful programs in education, healthcare, food support, vocational training, and economic empowerment — creating sustainable opportunities for growth, self-reliance, and improved quality of life.

What we do
Six initiatives carry the foundation's work.

Food Support Initiative
Providing essential food items to vulnerable families, widows, children, and underserved communities to combat hunger and malnutrition.

Educational Support & Digital Literacy Scheme
Supporting students with learning materials and scholarships, and introducing artificial intelligence training to prepare them for the digital economy.

Vocational Skill Training & Empowerment
Equipping youths and women with practical skills such as tailoring, catering, and plumbing — alongside startup support to promote entrepreneurship.

Financial Support for Businesses
Providing grants, seed funding, and business support services to help small businesses grow and thrive.

Scholarship Fund Program
Offering financial assistance to bright but underprivileged students across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

Healthcare Support Initiative
Delivering medical outreaches, free health screenings, medications, and health awareness programs to underserved communities.

Who leads it
The foundation was founded by Ms Olayinka Amope Afolabi, who serves as Founder and President. She is supported by a Board of Trustees and a Country Head who directs the work in Nigeria.
