Empowering women, people with disabilities, and the communities around them.
Who we are
Women Empowering Women and Disabled, known on its own channels as the WEWAD Foundation, is a nonprofit corporation registered in the State of Minnesota and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) public charity.
WEWAD was founded with a simple yet powerful vision: to create a world where every individual, regardless of gender, ability, age, background, tribe, or religion, is empowered to reach their full potential. Our journey began in Nigeria, where we recognized the need for an inclusive community that supports women and individuals with disabilities.
Most of the work runs in Nigeria, across Oyo State, Lagos and Osun State, and the home community of Lake Elmo, Minnesota is served from here too.
Mission
To empower individuals and communities through impactful programs in education, healthcare, food support, vocational training, and economic empowerment — creating sustainable opportunities for growth, self-reliance, and improved quality of life.
Vision
A world where women, especially those with disabilities, have equal opportunities, access to resources, and the power to shape their destinies.
What we do
Six initiatives carry the work.

Food Support Initiative
Hunger is the first thing that stops a household getting anywhere else. Essential food items go to vulnerable families, widows, children and underserved communities.

Educational Support & Digital Literacy Scheme
Learning materials and scholarships for students who would otherwise drop out, alongside artificial intelligence training for the work the digital economy is actually offering.

Vocational Skill Training & Empowerment
Practical trades — tailoring, catering, plumbing — taught to youths and women, with startup support attached so the skill becomes a business rather than a certificate.

Financial Support for Businesses
Grants, seed funding and business support for small businesses that have the trade but not the capital.

Scholarship Fund Program
Financial assistance for bright but underprivileged students, at primary, secondary and tertiary level.

Healthcare Support Initiative
Medical outreaches, free health screenings, medications and health awareness reach communities where the nearest clinic is not a realistic journey.

Leadership
Founder Ms Olayinka Amope Afolabi is President. A Board of Trustees governs the foundation, and a Country Head directs the programs delivered in Nigeria.
